PHOBIK

Diverging from his traditional comic book style, Phobik’s new show, “Quarantoons” is focused on his new body of work featuring a blend of some of our favorite childhood cartoon characters mixed with Phobik’s signature color code.  Inspired by rising through the darkness of quarantine, Phobik has focused on his use of color to convey the darker undertones to his nostalgia-invoking pieces.

“Quarantoons” focuses on the dichotomy between apex predators and their prey.  In the wild, unlike the cartoon world, the unpredictably gery mouse doesn’t always outsmart the tomcat in hilariously concocted schemes; while the coyote oftentimes catches the Roadrunner, and Elmer (if he had his gun) bags the nagging and bugging Bunny.  The pieces reflect the dog-eat-dog world along with the resiliency, strength, perseverance, adaption, and the motivation required to be at the top of the food chain.

A native to Hollywood, California, Phobik is a self-taught artist who started out drawing his original comic book style character illustrations drawing from his personal experiences in Los Angeles. His artistic skillsets span from graphic novel illustrations and fine art, to murals and interior design.

Showcased in galleries throughout the world, Phobik also has his murals in LA archived by the Google Street Art Project, including being awarded recognition by the city of Los Angeles.  In addition to his private collectors, the artist behind “Quarantoons” has also been previously commissioned by LA Live, Gibson Guitars, The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, TJ Martell Foundation, WePlay Co., MTV, and the Los Angeles Public Library.  However, the project he is most proud of is with his work with Smile South Central – a Non-Profit community project that focuses on beautifying the streets of South Central via murals that help provide a positive communal atmosphere.

Join us and Phobik at Ewkuks Gallery for the Opening Day of “Quarantoons”.  New Works, New, Canvases, and MORE!!
