 ERNIE STEINER

Patterns exist all around us – in music, nature, architecture, fashion, etc. There are even patterns in human nature within each day, week, month, and year of our lives.  Humans are inundated with daily routines, repetitive tasks, and a revolving door of responsibilities.  Ernie Steiner’s Patterns Variance highlights the patterns within our lives for the intention of being able to step out of your routine to do something different for a change; to step back and have fun looking at the variances of patterns in all of our lives – patterns that are all different but yet all the same.

Oftentimes people blend into the patterns of their lives, regularly confusing who they are for their routines.  “I am a latte drinker.” “I cook dinners for my family.” “I am an accountant.”  These are things we do, not who we are.  Patterns Variance showcases patterns being brought to life and becoming their own existence – both breaking through the patterns, as well as coexisting with them.  Believing that the beauty comes from breaking the patterns to live life, each piece plays with different captivating abstract patterns as canvases for Ernie Steiner’s iconic figures.

Ernest (Ernie) Steiner, is a visual artist residing in Los Angeles, California. Born in Connecticut and spending many years of his early life in New York City.  Most of Ernie’s inspiration came from skateboarding, fashion, and graffiti. Ernie took courses at the School of Visual Arts in New York throughout 2008 and at Otis College in Los Angeles in 2010. Ernie has over thirty years of experience using an airbrush, which is one of the primary tools in his art work. The airbrush has always been a way to capture similar painting techniques of Ernie’s early graffiti influences on a smaller scale.
